Tautology,a common linguistic phenomenon,is a special expression. In syntax its predicate uses BEand expression is NP1be NP2(NP1 is the same as NP2).In semantics,it doesn't express any proposition information, and is a kind of redundant expression. But it can convey different implications pragmatically. We analyze tautology in the angle of construction grammar. We think tautology is a construction, its meaning can't be inferred from its component parts, and it has relatively independent semantic and pragmatic values. In other words, the whole meaning is more than the sum of the parts' meaning.
