A New Approach to Image Retrieval Based on Mathematical Morphology

In this paper, an approach to colorbased image retrieval based on mathematic morphology is proposed. It quantizes colors of each image to several different color levels, then morphic erode algorithm be separately used to all the quantized color level. In the procedure of erode, different radius structuring elements are used. For each eroded color level, the quantity of pixel is as feature of the image. Experimental results are given to show its ability of identifying images and retrieving similar images. Its performance is better than that of the histogram distance method and edge histogram method.
