Pragmatic Inference: Empirical Turn of Logic

Abductive inference has attracted great attention from different paradigms in natural language understanding.With special reference to the inference of implicature in Gricean theory and relevance theory,this paper demonstrates that the pragmatic principles are just special constraining principles of abduction in verbal communication.The so-called empirical turn in modern logic has laid a solid foundation for pragmatic reasoning.
