An Edge Curve Extraction Method Based on Sub-Pixel Edge

Feature extraction, as a key step, plays an important role in feature-based image registration. With the purpose of solving the extraction of free-form sub-pixel edge, a new edge extraction method is proposed. Firstly,the continuous edge can be obtained through edge tracing and connecting. Then, for noisy edge curves, a bilateral filtering method is used to denoise. The results indicate that the proposed method, on the basis of maintain high precision of sup-pixel edge, could extract continuous and smooth free-form edge curves effectively. Therefore, this method lays a foundation for edge-based image registration.
