Improvement on Location-based Routing Protocols in Wireless Mesh Networks

Haitao Zhao · Journal of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications · 2012

A location-based interference aware routing protocol IAPR is proposed, which aims to improve the performance of greedy forwarding and void detour through interference sensing of wireless channels. In the greedy forwarding mode, through the next hop selection process based on the tradeoff between forwarding distance, link quality and difficulty of channel access, better transmission link can be selected with the guarantee of packet forwarding distance. An competition based opportunistic forwarding mode is initiated when the packet forwarding reaches a local minimum. The competition considers the possibility of packet forwarding mode retreating from void detour to greedy forwarding, during which the neighboring node assisting the forwarding mode retreating will gain the highest priority in the competition, leading to the opportunity of first one to forward packet.NS2 simulation results have shown that IAPR protocol can better realize packet forwarding and enhance packet transport efficiency.
