A Web-based remote image surveillance system based on JPEG2000 and XML is proposed and implemented in this paper. The system overcomes the shortcomings of Web-based remote image surveillance systems based on motion image coders, and utilizes greatly Scalability and ROI , the two merits of JPEG2000 as well. The system also has the advantages of being easy to exchange data, terminal independent and platform independent and easy to expand because of the utilization of XML and distributed system structure based on Web Service and .NET Remoting.
