Contribution of Relevance Theory to Pragmatic Inferential Mechanism

The inferential mechanism of relevance theory is closely connected with the concepts of maximal relevance and cognitive context.The paper is to compare the relevance theory,the code-model and cooperative principle in order to highlight the contribution of relevance theory to inferential mechanism in utterance understanding.Then the conclusion is drawn that comparatively speaking,relevance theory provides a more scientific and convincing inferential mechanism though it isn't flawless.
