Fast Algorithm for H.264 Intra-prediction

To reduce computational complexity of intra prediction,an efficient fast mode selection is proposed. The algorithm decreases the selection range of prediction mode based on the analysis of quantification parameter Qp. By the judgment of all-zero blocks or near-all-zero blocks,prediction can be terminated earlier. The computational complexity can be further reduced by combining the directional adjacency of the optimal mode and the sub-optimal prediction mode. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce computational complexity of the intra -prediction by 40%～96% while degradation of the image quality is negligible.
