Mobile Ad hoc networks(MANETs) are extensively used in military and civilian application.Dynamic topology is an important characteristic of MANETs.This dynamic nature of the topology of the network has made it vulnerable to security attacks.The black hole attack and the gray hole attack on the networks running under the AODV protocol are discussed.A method for prevention from the black hole attacks are proposed.
