Application of Lightning Location and Monitoring System in Prevention of Lightning Faults of Transmission Line

Based on the application of lightning location and monitoring system in North China Power Grid,the action of this system in prevention of lightning faults of transmission lines is presented;the principal causes of line trip and fault positions are clarified and the law of lightning activity is found out;by means of detailed analysis on concrete transmission lines,in the prevention of lightning faults special attentions are paid to the transmission lines and line sections,where lightning strike often occurs,and these lines and sections are determined.Thus,optimal configuration of lightning protection devices in these key regions can decrease lightning strike-caused trip-out rate of transmission lines and improve security and stability of power grid.
