Study on WinRAR Key Recovery based on Reverse Engineering

WinRAR,as powerful and most widely-used compressed files management software,uses password to protect data and thus is of high safety,this enlarges the difficulty of WinRAR password recovery.At present the primary way is brute-force recovery but at low efficiency due to the huge calculation in the WinRAR password determination process.The paper analyzes the file encryption mechanism of the software WinRAR3.x and gives the procedure of password generation and determination.And then the paper proposes an optimized procedure,thus to reduce the calculation to only twice AES execution in recovering password.The program using proposed procedure becomes fairly simple and efficient,particularly for large-size files.
