Review of Methods for Brain MR Image Segmentation

Objective:To explore the progress in research on methods for brain MR image segmentation.Methods:In this paper,we classified the methods for brain MR image segmentation,presented a review of the methods for brain MR image segmentation in recent years,summarized the evaluation measures for the segmentation methods and concluded with a discussion on the prospect of future research in brain MR image segmentation methods.Results:The methods for brain MR image segmentation mainly include classical segmentation method,statistical method,deformable model,artificial neural network-based segmentation,wavelet-based segmentation,genetic algorithm and so on.Conclusions:With the further study,MRI-based segmentation of brain tissue tends to be automatic and rapid.Effective integration of segmentation methods will be emphasized,and the breakthrough will be achieved in novel theories,techniques and tools of methods for brain MR image segmentation.
