Sensor nodes of wireless sensor networks rely mainly on battery power. In order to ensure that the nodes can work stably for a long time, the performance of battery power supply has higher requirements. The authors have set up a network based on ZigBee protocol to test the power consumption of sensor nodes.A method for on-line monitoring the battery voltage based on WSN is provided, and the performance test of Ni-MH batteries and solar battery powered have been done;the measuring error about 1%.The experimental results show that, when the data collection period is from 2 seconds to 600 seconds, the ordinary Ni-MH battery for WSN nodes power supply can maintain its normal work for 10 day, while the 2 000 mAh lithium battery with a 0.7W solar panel powered sensor nodes can maintain the nodes to work for a long time(11 day at least). This work provides a reference for the next node power supply design and estimation of survival time.
