The collaboration model is the kernel and the basis of CSCW system. Its purposes are todescribe the mechanism, mode, management, process and coordination of the collaboration,According to the interactive mode,characteristics and requirements of collaboration among people, thispaper proposes a collaboration model which is composed of 3 layers: conference, activity andcollaboration, and also gives the formal definition of conference, activity and collaboration. Finally, itprovides a solution to the collaboration model by using the combination of fen focusandfree talkmodes. The collaboration model and its complementation have been carried out in the distributedmultimedia collaboration system (DMCS ).
