Because medical images have a certain legal effect, its accuracy of the data is of great significance. Therefore, the large amount of data and high precision characteristics normally need to use the lossless compression. At the same time,in order to maintain an effective image information, redundant data should be reduced. In view of the poor quality of progressive decoded images and the high computational cost of ROI defined by JPEG 2000,the paper proposes an improved coding method which makes the rearrangement of bit planes easier, controls the quality of progressive decoded images better, and makes images clearer. At the same time the method is used in Gray Image, can reduce the complexity of computing, and is easier to realize. The method provides a convenient tool for fature medical image storage.
