Crop growth simulation is an newly established edging subject, and useful for understanding, predicting,and then regulating growth and development of crop in relation to environment.The purpose, meaning, characteristics and origin of crop growth simulation were discussed in this paper which also introduced the development history,the characteristics,and the situation in the world in detail.Afterwards,the advantages and the limitations were pointed out.Finally,the application prospects and development tendencies were analyzed.
