Fast Flexible Ring-like Search Algorithm

The properties of H.264/AVC motion estimation and the statistical characteristics of H.264/AVC motion vectors are analyzed,and a novel fast flexible ring-like search(FFRS) algorithm is proposed in this paper.It makes use of the correlation among neighboring motion vectors,the direction of the motion and their intensities.Based on the information,the proposed algorithm adaptively changes the search ring strategy in order to perform fast search for motion vectors.This algorithm improves the motion estimation algorithm of H.264/AVC in aspects of reducing the search points while maintaining the accuracy of estimation,and its efficiency outperforms UMHexagonS algorithm from H.264/AVC.
