Lixin Jiang · Journal of Clinical Cardiology · 2011

Objective:To investigate the degree and determinants of βreceptor blockers in patients with Coronary Heart Disease(CHD) in China.Method:In an international multi-center clinical trial being undertaken in China, patients with CHD were screened in 51 highest-ranking hospitals in 14 cities.Their characteristics collected by electronic questionnaire were described and analyzed.Result:All the screened 13 078 CHD patients had indications forβreceptor blockers.Only 60% CHD patients were using βreceptor blockers when screened.About 62% patients with prior MI were using β receptor blockers. The proportion was higher in patients with hypertension or revascularization. Conclusion:βreceptor blockers are greatly underused in secondary prevention among CHD patients or even among patients with prior MI in China. There was a gap between evidence and practice. It remains a major challenge for healthcare professionals and policy makers to resolve this problem rapidly.
