SNMP Distributed Aggregative Polling for Network Fault Management

The focus of the network fault management is currently shifted towards service and application-level fault management. So it is necessary to enhance the polling frequencies in the network fault management system. With the increase of network elements and MIBs, the management traffic of the SNMP concentrated polling can overwhelm the network. In this paper, a novel SNMP distributed aggregative polling method is presented, which is based on the self-adaptive assignment policy and the aggregation rules.
