Cognitive context theory proves that utterance under standing is a process of psychological construct that depends on the inferential process of cognitive assumptions. Therefore, the key to listening comprehension lies in the inferential system of knowledge script, psychological schema and so cio-psychological representation of the listener which are used to achieve optim al relevance between context and utterance for the smallest possible processing effort. The analysis of listening materials of CET 4 indicates that utterance un derstanding is related to language knowledge as well as pragmatic inference.
