We present in this paper an improved Binomial Sine Pulse (BSP) excitation signal used in linear prediction-based speech codecs which works around 2.4kbps. In the structure of the BSP excitation signal, the monophonic sine wave is replaced by the harmonious sine wave , whose amplitude is modulated by a binomial signal. The binomial signal describes the various trends of excitation signals in a pitch period. Experiment results show that such an improved speech codec can provide higher intelligible synthesized speech than the originally BSP codec.
