Virtual Modbus device based on wireless sensor networks

To integrate Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) into Modbus field bus,a new solution was proposed based on the protocol conversion function of a gateway.In this solution,every sensor node reported its sensor data to the gateway periodically,and the gateway delegated the sensor nodes to response to the Modbus query.So each sensor node could be considered as a virtual Modbus device.The advantage of the proposed solution was to extend the Modbus function into WSN without incurring extra cost on resource constrained sensor nodes.Any Modbus query on the sensor nodes could be responded in a real-time way.The simulation results validate the feasibility of the presented solution.
