To improve decoding of the video protocol H.264,the authors analyzed ways to use parallel processing of H.264 on a multi-DSP platform.A macro-block level parallel H.264 decoding model was implemented using the CPU to do entropy decoding, and using DSP to deal with the macro-block data.An annular pipeline with mailboxs was implemented between the DSPs,reducing the DSP wait time caused by macro-block data dependence. The multi-DSP platform could decode H.264 about three times faster than a similar system with a single DSP.The degree of parallelism in I frames and P frames was analyzed, and the different influences they produce was pointed out.Simulation results showed the analysis to be correct.
