The primary function of the UMA system is to provide the best Video services for all the users. However, various video compression standards and network conditions lead to great mismatch problem. To fix the mismatch, part 7 of MPEG-21, Digital Item Adaptation is used in UMA. How to design the resource adaptation engine is the key of the Digital Item Adaptation. A lot of new research work have been done to support the transcoding tools and QoS of the resource adaptation engine.
