Cognitive Approach to the Analysis of News Headlines

The cognitive theories such as Figure-Groundand Trajector-Landmarkproposed by Langacker offer a new approach to research into the daily language.In the light of such cognitive approach,this paper has attempted to analyze news headlines in order to reveal the cognitive models in them.In addition,metadiscoursal salience has been invented to expand the approach to cognitive discourse analysis.
