Brief Look at the Logic Treatment of Semantic Vagueness in Natural Language

Ligang Liu · Journal of Southwest University of Science and Technology · 2008

Since the law of excluded middle can not give a satisfactory answer to semantic vagueness in natural language,two-valued logic is developed to three-valued logic with the addition of a third truth value-neither true nor false.Three-valued logic can not dosolve the problems, fussy logic is adopted in which the classical dichotomy of truth and falsity is smoothed out into a continuum of degrees of truth.Although it receives criticism because of its defects, logic treatment still contributes much to the solution of the problem, because the aim of logic treatment is not to pursue a specific truth value, but to try to build a reasonable semantic model to explore semantic vagueness.
