Relevant Schemata and Text Comprehension

This essay aims to put forward relevant schemata in the framework of relevance and schema theory and further investigate its role in text comprehension. In this process, the utterers and writers select and construct proper schemata inorder to decrease the listeners and readers' efforts and increase their texts' contextual effects so as to make their texts better understood; while the listeners and readers will pick up certain contextual clues to help motivate and construct relevant schemata. Meanwhile, this paper will also discuss changing schemata in the interaction of the given and new information.
