A good option for the utilization of the petroleum coke containing a high sulfur content is to use it as solid fuel in a CFB boiler. The combustion characteristics of petroleum coke have been analyzed by TGA methods, and combustion tests have been done in a bench scale CFB rig.The same tests have also been done on 6 kinds of coal to make a comparison. The reactivity of the petroleum coke is higher than that of several anthracites and close to that of lean coal.In this tests, the second air ratio seems good to be in the range of 35%~50% to achieve a high combustion efficiency while a steady performance can be sustained. The reasonable results may be useful for the design of the CFB boiler burning petroleum coke.
