Redundancy and Repetition of Words in Chinglish
Jinlong Zhang · Journal of Fuqing Branch of Fujian Normal University · 2004
Chinglish is often found in English translations in various Chinese publications, among which redundancy and repetition in word usage appear most frequently. There are two reasons. The translators, without thorough understanding of the original, try to give a word-to-word rendering; they follow the Chinese collocation and sentence structure, paying no attention to the features of the English language, and they even disobey the rules of English vocabulary and sentence. On the basis of a thorough understanding of the Chinese original, two steps can be taken to avoid redundancy and repetition: substitution and filter analysis.
