High-yield pulps were beaten by PFI mill. The effects of beating on the optical properties, strength properties and fiber morphology of high-yield pulps were analyzed. The results showed that, strength properties of softwood were increased because of freeness dropping, but they decreased after CSF 310mL. However, strength properties of hardwood were increased all through. At the same time, brightness and opacity were dropped. The mean length of fiber and mean kink index were dropped because of beating, and mean width, mean shape and fines were increased. After beaten, most fiber of softwood was 0.2~0.5mm and 0.5~1.5mm, but fiber of hardwood was 0.2~0.5mm and fines. The crystallinity of high-yield pulps was increased then decreased because of freeness dropping.
