Color image segmentation based on watershed

The objective of still image segmentation is to partition the image into homogeneous regions.Object extraction,object recognition and object-based compression are its typical applications.In this article,we firstly get the initial segmentation of the image by implementing the watershed algorithm supported by Vincent and Soille,and then the initial regions are merged by criterions combining edge and region-based techniques until the result is consistent with human perception.
