Implementation of two-dimensional DCT/IDCT for real-time video encoding

This paper describes the implementation of two-dimensional forward and inverse Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT and IDCT)using the ALTERA FLEX10K130FPGA.The Architecture is based on the conven-tional row-column decomposition method.The use of multiplier based on the shift-sum and pipelining reduces the hardware requirement and achieves high-speed operation.The clock frequency is33MHz.Furthermore,this2-D DCT scheme satisfies the accuracy specification of CCITT recommendation.[
