Study and Design of Scalable NAS

Dezhi Han · Mini-micro Systems · 2005

With the digital information on the Internet increasing explosively nowadays, it is urgent to work out an network storage system with a large capacity, a high I/O speed, availability and scalability. To solve the above-mentioned issues, a scalable Network-Attached Storage system (Scalable NAS, for short SNAS) has been designed. Firstly, the SNAS integrates multi-NAS with the help of SNAS_UIOS_FS module, which can provide a greater capacity, higher availability and scalability, and a united storage view for users; secondly, the SNAS can balance the whole system load with the help of the SNAS_LOADBA_FS module; thirdly, it merges thr virtures of NAS and SAN with the iSCSI module. In the experiments, the SNAS has ultra-high-throughput for both of the file I/O requests and the block I/O requests.
