Objective To compare the activation levels of pictures and words and to examine the interaction of the materials with the blurry levels.Method Simple English words and pictures of everyday objects, both being blurred at eight levels, were tried as experimental materials in the stimulus naming task. Results The correct naming rates of the blurry pictures were higher than those of english words in total, which shows statistical signfance(F=48.4,P0.01);different correct naming rates at various levels have statistical signifance(F=2 533.5,P0.01);at blurry levels of 1-7,however,correct naming rates of pictures were remarkably higher than those of words(P0.05 or P0.01);at blurry levels of 2,3 and 4,materials interracted with blarry levels obviously(F=9.7,P0.01).Conclusion Picture activation is higher than word activation;words produce larger perceptual interference effect than pictures given similar activation levels.
