The Application of XML in Network Monitoring

Analyze the limitation of the network monitoring software that it can only monitor and analyze the existed protocols of the application layer ,but has no any function for the protocols of the application layer defined by the user .So it can't satisfy the user .This paper introduces the features of XML ,propose a method to design and add the more protocols of the application layer by XML that is implemented in VC6.0,and introduce how to parse XML by DOM with an example .By adding the protocols of the application layer using XML to monitor and analyze the protocols of the application layer defined by the user, and extend the functions of the existing network monitoring software.
