Causal Theory of Reference and Its Revision

This paper discusses the main difficulties faced by Kripke's causal theory of reference.Then the paper compares two revisions of causal theory,i.e,Devitt's theory of chain of designation and Evans' hybird theory.Through the inquiry of these revisions the paper provides a theory of reference-fixing based on rule-following.
