The Improved Function Point Analysis Based on Analogy of Software System Characteristics

FPA is an important method for software size estimation. This paper presents an improved method by the analogy of the evaluated software project and existing software systems to acquire better accuracy. This method constructs a vector from the general system characteristics in FPA, and takes the reciprocal of 2-normal distance of vectors as the analogy degree of the evaluated project and the existing projects, and revises the FPA result taking the relative errors of the existing software projects into account. The calculation instance shows that it gets a more accurate result than the standard FPA.
