A pattern recognition method based on the theory of evidence

A pattern recognition method based on the theory of evidence is given, which is also a method based on approximate reasoning. The advantages of this method are its efficiency and its ability to take advantage of empirical knowledge. A method about on line hand write symbol recognition is given as an example to illustrate its usefulness.
