Smartphone-based Wearable, Ambulatory Monitoring System

Objective To develop a new type of physiological monitoring system with excellent user comfort, mobility and flexibility. Methods The prototype system of Bluetooth and smartphone-based ambulatory monitoring system was developed. A T-shirt with sensors integrated in to acquire the physiological parameters was used for non-intrusively monitoring. Results A number of physiological parameters such as ECG, respiration, body temperature and posture/activities could be monitored comfortably through this smartphone-based wearable system. Conclusion The smartphone has potential to become a technology platform for a wearable healthcare monitoring system. Wearable systems based on Bluetooth and smartphone will play a very important role in medicine.
