Video content-based admission control on multimedia networks

A video content-based admissioncontrol algorithm is proposed formultimedia network services. On the basis of contentcom- plexity of MPEG VBR video, different lost-frame priorities for different video traffics within a fixed window are assigned and a proper number of B frames of a video stream is discarded according to its priority when network load is heavy. With this algorithm the number of concurrent clients and utilization ratio of network resource are both increased while keeping QoS of clients within a tolerable range.
