Construction of multiple-rate QC-LDPC codes with constant block lengths

Zhaocheng Wang · Journal of Tsinghua University(Science and Technology) · 2013

Communication systems often need to support multiple-rate channel coding for different channel conditions. This paper presents a method to construct multiple-rate quasi-cyclic low density parity check(QC-LDPC) codes with constant block lengths to reduce the implementation complexity. This method uses the modified progressive edge-growth and Reed-Solomon(PEG-RS) codes together with row combining to generate parity check matrices for multiple-rate LDPC codes all with the same structure so that they can share hardware resources to reduce the complexity.Simulations show that the multiple-rate QC-LDPC codes outperform those of digital video broadcasting-second generation terrestrial(DVB-T2) for a range of code rates, with the implementation complexity of the multiple-rate decoder similar to that of the single-rate decoder.
