Objective To observe the morphological feature of atrioventricular node in Macaca mulatta heart, and compare difference among species. Methods Four Macaca mulatta heart were taken and atrioventricular node blocks imbedded with paraffin, serially sectioned, and stained by techniques of HE,Van Gieson, resorcininol roseine respectively. The morphological features and tissue structure of atrioventricular node were observed under the light microscopy. Results The morphological feature of atrioventricular node in Macaca mulatta heart was triangle-like-body from anterior to posterior. The atrioventricular node neared to central fibrous bodyin left side. The overlay layer composed of collagen fibers and atrial muscles could be observed in right side. The anterior part of atrioventricular node extended as atrioventricular bundle. There were tree kinds of cell,a few pacemaker cell and Purkinje cell and a lot of transitive cell, existed in node.A great quantity of collagen and a plenty of elastic fibers which were interlaced network could be detected. Conclusion The morphology of Macaca mulatta atrioventricular node is similar to those of human being and other mammalian and its cell component are more typical than the adult human's.The collagen and elastic fibers in node interstitium very abundance.
