Joint Design on Physical-layer Network Coding and Channel Coding in Wireless Networks

Peng Xi-dan · Communications technology · 2009

Network coding is becoming more and more popular in recent years for its ability to improve network throughput and robustness. The physical layer network coding in wireless networks is studied, and a practical scheme of joint physical network coding (PNC) and channel coding for multiple-access channel is proposed, which makes use of the additive nature of simultaneously arriving electromagnetic wave. Similar to the channel codingl decoding scheme for single channel, the proposed scheme takes advantage of linearity of Turbo code and network coding to directly estimate network coding codeword, and is easy to implement and close to the channel capacity. Moreover, the adaptive scheme, which consists of the proposed scheme and Turbo multi-user detecter, is optimal and achieves 1.58 times gain over the traditional scheme.
