Design on Simulation System of Tailings Dam Failures

Tailings dam failures cause serious influences to the society. In order to support the emergency management on tailings dam failures, this paper designed a two-dimensional simulation system on tailings dam failures based on Geographical Information System(GIS) technology and the simulation model of tailings dam failures. The framework and functions of the system were discussed. When the system was developed, the functions include data storage and management, files operation, layers display, query on basic information, thematic maps and emergency plans, calculation on tailings dam failures results and visualization of tailings dam failures results. The system was designed for practical application and can be used by the government to manage the tailings dams.
