32 strains of flocculant producing microorganisms were isolated from starch wastewater, activated sludge and soil, respectively. After rescreening, 1 strain of bacteria SⅥ-4 with high flocculating activity was obtained. The optimum culture conditions were: soluble starch 2%, peptone 1%, KH_2PO_4 0.2%,K_2HPO_4 0.2%,NaCl 0.05%,(NH_4)_2SO_4 0.05%,MgSO_4·7H_2O 0.05%,pH 6.0~8.0, 30~34 ℃, 120r/min, cultivated for 2~3 days in flakes. The strain produced a strong-activity flocculant, and its best flocculating rate to 4‰ kaolin suspension could reach 91.6%.
