The media access control(MAC) protocols catering for the sleep mechanism in wireless sensor networks(WSNs) generally maintain the sleep scheduling with the same phase. This results in high collision probability and large data transmission delay. In order to deal with these problems,a new MAC protocol was proposed which maintained a sleep scheduling with different phases.Such protocol can not only diminish the collision probability, but also introduce an opportunistic cooperative transmission mechanism to reduce the data transmission delay.Simulation results show that the proposed CS-MAC protocol can efficiently diminish the collision probability and decrease the data transmission delay, and can thus reduce the energy consumption of the network.
