The architecture & protocol of InfiniBand

Existing interconnect technologies have failed to keep pace with computer evolution and the exponential increase of Internet, and it lead to new bottleneck in data services. InfiniBand can improve this bottleneck. This paper describes the origin of InfiniBand, and describes InfiniBand architecture, physical topology, protocol layers and related main technologies. At the end of this paper comparison is made between InfiniBand and PCI technology.
