Analysis of Network Layer Protocols for Space Communications
Wan Peng · Radio Engineering of China · 2009
The increasing of space explorations requires space communication protocols to provide more capabilities, such as adaptive data transformation, dynamic routing, and easy interoperability between the ground system and spacecraft.Network Layer is the key protocol layer to satisfy above technical requirements. An in-depth analysis of CCSDS space packet protocol,SCPS-NP and IP is made in this paper.Compare is made in items of function, address space, overhead and COTS support. It is derived that IP is a reasonable solution for future space missions. For missions that don't need routing in space link,CCSDS space packet protocol could be adopted to achieve adaptive data transformation.
