Performance analysis of crosspoint queued switch supporting multicast traffic

Yunmei Xiao · Journal of Tsinghua University(Science and Technology) · 2012

Multicast switching is a key technology in core switches.Crosspoint queued(CQ) switches with buffers on the crosspoints are already an established multicast switch structure. This analysis investigates a common CQ multicast structure and the influence of various factors, such as traffic patterns, speedup rates, buffer size, and switch size,on the CQ multicast throughput, average delay, and packet loss probability.Theoretical analyses and simulations show that the CQ switch performance is similar to that of a unicast switch for uniform traffic arrivals and much better for burst traffic arrivals. The traffic patterns and speedup rates are the most important factors for the CQ switch performance, while the buffer size and switch size are also important.
