An Imaged-based Method for Extracting the Parameters for Street-crossing Pedestrian Traffic

In order to improve the safety of pedestrian when walking through intersection,a method for acquiring the parameter of pedestrian traffic based on an image analysis technique is presented.In this method,the area of interest where the zebra strips present and the equations for describing their presence are developed and the position and speed of pedestrian are then captured and extracted according to the identified zebra stripes feature.The results show that the proposed method can provide a new way to extract the pedestrian traffic and provide additional data for an improved intersection control.
